- Bowers & Wilkins -
B&W
B&W speakers are known the world over for their impressive sound quality and unique designs.
Based in England and having world-wide sales and showrooms, the philosophy
behind B&W, which stands for Bowers and Wilkins, has its
roots in the post-World War II years when founder John Bowers
decided to build speakers. B&W produced their first
loudspeaker in 1967. Bowers emphasis on research and
development, the excellent team of engineers he employed, and
the company's willingness to listen to feedback from recording
engineers ensured that the company's speakers were some of the
highest quality speakers produced anywhere in the world.
B&W’s famous 801 was launched in 1979 and soon became the
reference speaker in nearly all of the world’s classical
recording studios, including EMI Abbey Road, Decca and Deutsche
Grammophon. The company founder died in 1987. In 1992 B&W
expanded production facilities at Silverdale site in Worthing,
West Sussex, to cope with increases in product demand. In 1993
they introduced the Nautilus speaker after five years of
research and development. In 1999 they launched the 600 Series
2. In 2002 a second plant in Bradford, England is started. In
2003 B&W acquired its own cabinet making plant in Denmark.
